Website Maintenance

Website maintenance is all about steadily upgrading, reviewing (how people respond to your stuff) and/or bringing in new things to keep them coming back....

Maintaining your site should also include:

-- Checking to make sure there has been no vandalism to your site, guestbook, message board... regularly checking site security to protect your guests' and your own personal info, too.

-- Making sure all of your pages are loading properly, including animations, sound files, images...

-- Fixing broken external links: Visit external links once in a while to make sure they still lead to the sites they are supposed to, and to make sure the links don't lead to "404" pages or sites that no longer exist.

-- Removing old or outdated content...

-- Checking your stats: How much traffic does your site get daily; do you have enough bandwidth to accommodate the traffic you get or does your site become unavailable for lengths of times because you've exceeded your daily or monthly allowance; checking your search engine ranking -- and making adjustments accordingly; upgrading or purchasing more bandwidth; adding new content to draw more traffic...

-- Checking regularly to be sure your site host doesn't remove your site due to lack of activity; and, more importantly, to be sure your host doesn't have too much "down time" making your site unavailable.
